'Until August 31, anything can happen': Xavi less optimistic about De Jong future

"I don't know what will happen to Frenkie de Jong. Until August 31, anything can happen, but he knows what I think and what the club want and need. Of course I'm counting on him, he's a great player," Xavi said after the Joan Gamper Trophy.

Before the game, Joan Laporta suggested that Barcelona's intention was to keep the midfielder.

However, the press reports that the club's real intention is to offload the player. Another option would be for De Jong to lower his salary, but the 25-year-old seems to be opposed to both scenarios at the moment.
