Ten Hag snubs Sky Sports reporter during press conference — their frosty dynamic

Erik ten Hag is not one to let the media take him for a ride despite the scrutiny that comes with being Manchester United boss.

During his latest media briefing before the Southampton clash on Saturday, Ten Hag came face-to-face with a familiar figure in Gary Cotterill - a reporter for Sky Sports.

After two reporters began the questioning, Cotterill too asked Erik a follow-up. However, Ten Hag responded to everyone but him but ignored him for the rest of the conference.

It might seem a tad bizarre to ignore a Sky Sports reporter, given their reputation for being one of Britain's most popular news outlets.

But there are multiple reasons behind Ten Hag's snub. When the Dutchman first got the United job, Cotterill hounded the 52-year-old outside Ajax's training base even though Erik was still managing them.

After Ten Hag arrived in England, he was present for United's abysmal loss to Crystal Palace on the final day of last season. And outside the stadium, Cotterill once again hounded Ten Hag with invasive questions.

On both occasions, Ten Hag opted to ignore Gary but it doesn't end there. The reporter has shared tweets revelling in United's poor start to the season - especially after the 4-0 loss to Brentford. He shared a smug emoji and tweeted 'karma' but it's Ten Hag having the last laugh.

Reacting to being snubbed by the boss, Cotterill told the Daily Mail: "I'm surprised. It was just two people doing their job but I'm assuming he was offended by it.

"The thing at Palace was him doing his job and not commenting and me doing my job and trying to get a comment. I'm only guessing that was the reason.

"I haven't been told. You saw what was said but I don't think it would be too much of a leap to assume it was about that."
