Milan Star Leao Ready To Show Chelsea What They’re Missing

Chelsea are keen on making a move for Rafael Leao but seem likely to miss out, but they’ll have the chance to personally watch the Milan star in the Champions League this season.

The Blues and the Rossoneri have both been drawn into Group E of the Champions League this season, alongside RB Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb. Both sides will be confident of progressing to the knockout stages, and their head to head clashes are likely to be the difference maker in the fight to finish first.

Despite their interest, it’s hard to imagine Chelsea completing a deal for Leao in the remaining days of this transfer window. The Portuguese forward’s release clause is no longer active, so Milan have no obligation to sell. They’ve set a rough €150m price tag on the player, a figure the Blues seem unlikely to match. 

It’s almost fate then that Leao will have the chance to show off against Chelsea in the coming months, where he’ll be hoping to prove why the Blues should’ve shored up €150m for his signature this summer.

The talented Portuguese forward was a key part of Stefano Pioli’s Scudetto winning squad last season, scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists in 34 Serie A appearances. He proved himself to be an exciting and electric player, although he’ll need to work on his consistency in order to take the next step up.

His current contract expires in 2024 and he only earns €1.5m net per season, so the Rossoneri are looking to tie him down to a new long-term deal with significantly higher wages, hoping that’ll be enough to stave off Chelsea’s interest for the foreseeable future.
