'It's not a question of striker or no striker': Tuchel on need of more signings before transfer deadline
Chelsea have spent over $150m so far this summer and the Wesley Fofana deal is all but done, which will take their spend to over $230m. However, the start to this season has been terrible for the Blues.
Asked if Chelsea need a striker or more signings in other departments, Tuchel told the media: "It's not a question of striker or no striker. No focal point. As a team we're not strong enough at the moment.
"What it [this loss] reminded me of was Juventus last season. We played a fantastic match last season but then we had Chilly out for eight months and Kante out for three months.
"We had a fantastic match against Tottenham but then our key player is out for six weeks. Conor is out. Ruben has injury. Mateo Kovacic has an injury from pre-season and Reece wasn't here today.
"With our demands, it's simply like that. It would be more important if these key players are missing, we need to show a different mentality."
"The line is so thin before excuses and explanation and I don't want to go down this road because I don't want to give anybody – myself, staff, players – any room for excuses.
"The closing of the transfer window will help as we know the commitment."
Chelsea are heavily linked with Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang but the transfer deadline is in less than two days now, so they must act fast if they want to improve the team.
