'I was looking for a leading role': Mayoral reveals why he left Real Madrid
“I was looking for a leading role and I think I'm going to play much more here. At Real Madrid I saw myself as a substitute for Benzema. I would have received minutes at Real Madrid but I wanted stability,” Borja Mayoral said in his first press conference at Getafe.
Real Madrid cashed in Mayoral after the striker bluntly told the club he wanted more game time elsewhere. Los Blancos received 10 million euros for the transfer.
Carlo Ancelotti is now left with only Mariano Diaz as his recognized backup no. 9 for Benzema.
However, It is believed that Ancelotti doesn't rate Mariano, which is why he intends to use Eden Hazard, Rodrygo or even Asensio in that false 9 position.
