Champions League schedule Date and Time in FULL: Celtic host reigning holders Real Madrid on matchday one
The full schedule for the condensed Champions League group stage has been released - with the trickiest of starts for Scottish club Celtic.
After their success in Paris, Real Madrid will kick off their attempt to win another Champions League trophy by visiting Celtic Park.
However, it will also have an impact on Premier League matches in England - with Chelsea's Premier League game at home to Manchester United currently pencilled in just two days before an early kick-off in the group stages.
Each matchday contains two matches which kick off at 5.45pm UK time, ahead of the rest of the games at 8pm.
The schedule has put groups E through H up first on Tuesday September 6, and because of the earlier start window, it means Chelsea's match at Dinamo Zagreb will be one of two matches to kick-off the group stages, alongside Borussia Dortmund's clash with FC Copenhagen.
At 8pm that day, Celtic host reigning champions Real Madrid, while Man City travel to Sevilla, and neutrals may be drawn to the fiery match-up likely to emerge when PSG host Juventus.
On Wednesday September 7, Rangers open their first Champions League group stage since 2010 with a visit to Ajax at 5.45pm UK time.
Later that day, Liverpool travel to Napoli, Spurs host Marseille and Inter Milan will welcome Bayern Munich to the San Siro as part of Group C, the so-called 'Group of Death' as they will also each face Barcelona during the two months of competition.
The all-British affairs between Liverpool and Rangers will take place just over a week apart due to the nature of this year's unusual schedule because of the winter World Cup.
Anfield will host their first meeting on Tuesday October 4, before the Scottish team will take on the task of welcoming last year's Champions League runners-up the following Wednesday.
It's not yet clear what impact this schedule will have on domestic fixtures in England, with Tottenham currently set to face one of the toughest tasks, facing Man City in the league on Saturday 10 September at 5.30pm, before flying to Sporting Lisbon for the early kick-off three days later.
Meanwhile Chelsea's trip to RB Salzburg on Tuesday 25 October for their penultimate group stage game is currently fixed for just two days after a Premier League game against Manchester United, which is now almost certain to be moved.
Sandwiched between those Rangers games, Liverpool are set to travel to the Emirates to face Arsenal in a Sunday afternoon TV clash, before hosting Man City the following weekend.
Man City themselves are currently scheduled to play Brighton at home just two days before their Champions League visit to Borussia Dortmund in late October.
The Scottish Premiership may also move Celtic or Rangers fixtures to aid their European campaigns, with two sides in the group stages for the first time in years.
