Aston Villa 'interested in PSG's Abdou Diallo' to boost Steven Gerrard's defensive options
Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain defender Abdou Diallo before the end of the transfer window.
The Villans want to strengthen the squad's defence following the injury to Diego Carlos, who only joined the club this summer from Sevilla.
The Villans are now looking to sign Diallo for €10million (£8.4m) in order to add to manager Steven Gerrard's options at the back, according to Le Parisien.
The report suggests that, although talks are yet to start, the 26-year-old would be keen on a move to Villa Park, and it is believed that PSG will not stand in his way of an exit from Le Parc des Princes as he has been deemed surplus to requirements at the club.
Diallo is hopeful that a move and increased playing time can boost his chances of playing at the Qatar World Cup this winter for Senegal.
The defender arrived at PSG three years ago from Borussia Dortmund in a €32m (£27m) deal but has struggled to establish himself in the Ligue 1 side's first team.
Last season, Diallo only made 12 appearances in the league and has not featured at all this season, but is still training with the first-team squad due to the professionalism he has shown to new manager Christophe Galtier, according to Canal.
Diallo could also be a potential replacement for former Aston Villa captain Tyrone Mings.
The Englishman was stripped of the captaincy at Villa Park with Gerrard demanding he show significant improvement to return to the starting line-up.
The report has said that Villa are not the only Premier League team interested in Diallo's signature, with West Ham and Tottenham being previously linked with a move to sign him.
The Hammers, however, signed his former teammate Thilo Kehrer earlier this month and he has gone on to make his Premier League and Europa Conference League debuts for the club already.
