Arsenal legend William Gallas: 'Arteta will be in trouble if they don't make top 4'
Speaking to Genting Casino, former Arsenal defender and captain William Gallas said: "Mikel Arteta will be in trouble if they don't make the top 4 this season.
"Arteta has been asked to make the top four and he didn't do it last season. If Arsenal don't play in the Champions League next season, it would cause a lot of drama.
"They have to have a great season, possibly win the Premier League, but definitely to qualify for the Champions League. They have just bought new players.
"It's in the hands of Arteta and the players. It will be a big problem for all of them if they don't do their job to qualify in the Champions League."
Arsenal have spent over £118 million so far this summer, the most out of every Premier League club, bringing in the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira and Gabriel Jesus.
With Arteta's side losing the top four spot to archrivals Tottenham last season, the 2022/23 top-flight campaign could be the make-or-break one for the young Spanish manager.
