Ten Hag pressures United to keep De Jong chase even if it lasts beyond season opener

According to The Guardian, Erik ten Hag remains as determined as ever to make Frenkie de Jong the marquee signing in his first transfer window at Man United.

He has reportedly told CEO Richard Arnold and director of football John Murtough to keep chasing the Barcelona midfielder even if he's not at the club before the season opener.

De Jong is not at pains to force through his move to Man United. Some sources say that he's specifically opposed to a move to Old Trafford, while others point out that the bone of contention is the £17m Barca owes him in deferred wages.

Chasing De Jong does not prevent United from making other signings: they've already secured the moves for Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen, while Lisandro Martinez is due to join shortly.
