Referee named for Man City vs Liverpool community shield clash - he infuriated Klopp last season
Liverpool will take part in their first competitive game of the new season when they face Man City in the Community Shield final on July 30.
Craig Pawson has been named as the referee for the high-profile game. John Brooks will be the VAR in the game.
Pawson officiated four Liverpool games last season, including the FA Cup final win over Chelsea. However, he also infuriated Jurgen Klopp with his questionable refereeing once.
After Liverpool’s 3-2 loss to West Ham United last season, the referee was criticized by Klopp for being too lenient with his calls and not penalizing some clear-cut errors that led to the Reds’ defeat.
Klopp will hope that Pawson’s officiating is much better in the community shield and that he doesn’t make errors that give City an advantage.
