Real Madrid defeat Juventus for its first win of the preseason tour around USA
Real Madrid defeated Juventus 2-0 on Saturday night at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California with goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio.
Benzema scored a solid penalty to break the stalemate in the opening half.
The Frenchman found the net in the early moments of the match but the goal was disallowed due to a clear offsides violation.
There was no need for VAR interference as the linesman was sure of Benzema's illegal position.
Benzema opened the score in minute 19 with an ice-cold finish from the penalty spot.
The referee awarded Madrid with the penalty after Vinicius Jr. was knocked down from behind inside the box.
Real Madrid get its first preseason win
Real Madrid controlled possession as the first 45 minutes came to a close, with the only dangerous play from Juventus coming courtesy of Leonardo Bonucci, whose free kick pierced the crossbar.
Juventus midfielder Juan Cuadrado replaced Angel Di Maria to start the second half, with the Argentine failing to make an impact against his former team.
In minute 63, Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti made 11 substitutions, including Asensio taking the field in place of Federico Valverde.
Five minutes later, Jesus Vallejo found Asensio inside the box for an easy push in goal that put Madrid up by two.
Real Madrid had not won in its preseason tour around the United States, losing to FC Barcelona and tying against Club America prior to beating Juventus.
