One possible reason why Jules Kounde grew cold on Chelsea move revealed

Jules Kounde was firmly on Chelsea's radar since last summer when the Blues were incredibly close to signing the Sevilla centre-back.

This summer, the Premier League club was poised to continue the chase for the Frenchman - but then, their plans changed.

It was widely reported that Chelsea instead decided to focus on Matthijs de Ligt, Kalidou Koulibaly and Nathan Ake.

Only after it became clear that the Blues would only manage to sign one of the three priority targets, they have switched their attention back to Kounde.

However, according to The Athletic, Kounde was upset at Chelsea’s interest going cold this summer.

At Barcelona, on the contrary, he was told that he was Xavi's first choice which helped him make the decision to join the Catalans.

As for Chelsea, they are still left with only one new defender in Koulibaly, but that is not enough to cope with the departure of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen - as well as the uncertainty over the future of Cesar Azpilicueta.
