'He is essential for us': Klopp pours cold water on Firmino departure rumours
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport has claimed that Juventus are close to signing Roberto Firmino in a £19m deal.
That is not the most reliable news outlet, and several local sources have already rubbished the story. Still, Jurgen Klopp was asked a question about him at a press conference.
"Bobby is [the] heart and soul of this team," the boss replied.
"The way we played in the last few years was only possible because of Bobby. That’s why I’m really happy he could train the majority of the time here in the pre-season so far and everything looks really good.
"I am absolutely fine and, for me, there’s no doubt about his quality. All the rest, we will see how this year goes, but yes, he is essential for us."
Firmino's contract expires in 2023, and there have been no reports about talks on a new deal.
The Brazilian might not be a regular starter anymore, but with a packed schedule and five subs, he'll still be very important for Liverpool in the coming season.
