Gerrard wants to sign Gomez, Liverpool hope to tie him down with new long-term contract
As per David Maddock of the Mirror, Steven Gerrard is keen on signing Joe Gomez for Aston Villa.
However, Liverpool are unlikely to sanction any sort of deal for Gomez. Jurgen Klopp reportedly views him as 'England's best centre-back'.
The 25-year-old's current contract expires on July 1, 2024, and Liverpool's main priority right now is to get him to sign a new long-term deal.
After Mohamed Salah's contract extension, sporting director Julian Ward and Klopp have 'put Gomez's contractual situation at the top of their respective priority lists'.
Gomez only made four league starts in 2021-22 and Liverpool are aware he wants more game time. They are also confident that he will be an important part of the team next season.
