Franck Ribery claims he should've won Ballon d'Or 2013 over Ronaldo and Messi

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, former France international Franck Ribery has explained why he deserved to win the Ballon d'Or 2013 over Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

The prestigious award given by France Football has been dominated by the two superstars over the past decade.

It's only now that the tides are shifting, with Ronaldo trying leave Manchester United and Messi enduring a mixed debut season at PSG.

Recalling the time that Ronaldo won the award in 2013 - his second one - Ribery said: "It was unfair, it was an incredible season for me, and I should have won it.

"They extended the time for votes, and something strange happened. I felt that it was a political choice."

Ribery scored 11 goals in 43 games for Bayern Munich that season, winning the Champions League in the process.
