Cristiano Ronaldo received 'six figure bonus' from Man Utd days before announcing his desire to leave the club

Cristiano Ronaldo received a lucrative six-figure bonus from Manchester United just days before making a u-turn and wanting to leave the club this summer, reports the Daily Mirror.

The 37-year-old received the payment (the exact amount is not mentioned), not as a loyalty bonus, but rather thanks to the many annual bonuses included on his deal when he re-joined from Juventus.

Ronaldo has a year to go on his United contract but he's believed to be 'upset' about the wage cut that's seen his weekly salary reduce to £360,000 from £480,000.

He also wants to play in the Champions League next season, which is not something the Red Devils can offer.

While initial reports suggested Ronaldo will stay at United despite missing the elite competition, it appears he has now changed his mind.
