'Crazy money': Man United fans unhappy with major fee paid for Lisandro Martinez transfer

Man United finally announced that they have secured an agreement with Ajax for the signing of Lisandro Martinez.

With the confirmation, the Eredivisie giants even publicly revealed the exact transfer fee they’re receiving for the centre-back.

United will pay an initial fee of €57m (£48.5m) along with €10m (£8.5m) in potential add-ons for the defender.

Ultimately, the Red Devils might have to shell out £57m in total for the 24-year-old centre-back.

Some United fans are definitely not happy with this surprise revelation and reacted on Redcafe.

CM10: “Ajax have done well for themselves, that's a lot of money.”

GasGoMarchingIN: “It seems a lot of money to me. The Sky sports bloke says about him winning the Copa America, well he only played one game in that and behind £42m Spurs man Romero (who is a very good defender himself to be fair). Obviously his height is a bit of a concern at CB. Disappointed that clubs are still taking the piss out of Utd financially. Hopefully he will be a good signing though which is the most important thing. He will have to be for what we have spent.”

Abraxas: “Wow. Turned out even more expensive than I imagined. I guess this is the problem with the manager directed approach. There is probably a list but it's not extensive and it's abundantly clear what the manager wants - players he knows. It doesn't leave the club much room to navigate this market and Ajax have really taken advantage of that.”

Malone_Post: “That is an absolutely incredible fee for a defender from the Dutch league, who isn’t even a regular starter for his national team & has huge question marks over his suitability for PL football. I desperately hope he proves the doubts completely wrong & goes on to be a wonderful signing and doesn’t instead become Erik’s version of Wan Bissaka/Maguire. He’s taking a big risk here, let’s just hope it pays off.”
