Calvin Philips joins Mancity
Man City announce Kalvin Phillips transfer as England midfielder joins in £45million deal after Gabriel Jesus leaves for Arsenal.
Manchester City have announced their second signing of the summer with Kalvin Phillips joining from Leeds on a six-year deal.Having bought striker Erling Haaland earlier in the transfer window, the Premier League champions have now strengthened in midfield in Phillips, who joins in a £45million deal.
The announcement came just over an hour after the deal to sell Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal was announced.
Phillips leaves behind a Leeds side he’s been associated with for over 12 years. He signed his professional contract in 2014, when Leeds were in the Championship.
He played a key role in getting Leeds promoted to the Premier League in the 2019/20 season.
Their first season in back in the top flight saw Phillips shine, which led to regular call-ups in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
The 26-year-old shone during England’s Euro 2020 campaign, starting every Three Lions match of the tournament.
And despite an injury-hit 2021/22 campaign, City have seen enough to bring him on board.
