Barca president Laporta: 'I want to thank Lewandowski in public for what he is doing to join us'

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has publicly thanked Robert Lewandowski for his attempts to force Bayern to sell him to the Catalan club.

"We made an offer to FC Bayern to sign Lewandowski and we are waiting for their response, I hope their response is positive," Laporta said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

"I want to thank Lewandowski here in public for what he is doing to join us."

It's a surprisingly candid remark from Laporta who could conceivably be accused of tapping up another club's player in this instance.

Bayern appear to have shifted from their public stance that Lewandowski will finish his contract with the club in 2023 - but they're unlikely to be pleased with Barcelona's behaviour.
