6 key insights from Malacia's first interview as Man United player
Tyrell Malacia was officially confirmed as a new Man United player on Tuesday, 5 July 2022.
He became the first signing in the Erik ten Hag era after the Red Devils were able to hijack Lyon’s deal and sign him from Feyenoord.
Soon after being confirmed as a new United player, Malacia gave an interview with the club’s own media.
Here are some of the best insights from the newest signing.
Converstions with Ten Hag
When asked about whether he’s spoken with Erik ten Hag before making the move, Tyrell said: “Yeah, I spoke with him on the phone when everything was agreed, and it was a really positive vibe and feeling and he wants to improve everything and wants to win prizes so I’m looking forward to it.”
Describing his best attributes
Malacia also described himself as a player, explaining: “As a footballer, I am strong in defence. I love to attack. Yeah, I have good drive and never give up.”
Inspiration from Edgar Davids
The 22-year-old said that one of his inspirations is ex-Holland midfielder, Edgar Davids. He also revealed what the former midfielder told him in the past: “Yeah, I spoke with him at the national team, and he said, ‘you’re not on my level yet but if you work with me and play football with me you will get there,’ so I’m curious about it.”
Biggest footballing hero
When asked about who was his biggest football hero growing up, Malacia said: “Growing up I didn’t really have a hero. My biggest hero was my dad always for me. Not because of football but as a person. And when I was playing on the streets with my friends I was always looking up to Ronaldinho.”
Personal hobbies
Speaking about what stuff he likes to do apart from playing football, the young defender explained: “I love music but being on my own a lot. Or with my family, but I don’t like to go out or that kind of thing. It’s not my thing.”
Message for United fans
Giving his own personalized message to the fans, Tyrell stated: “Hi, Manchester United fans, Tyrell here. I want to say thank you and I’m looking forward to playing for you and playing for this badge on my shirt. Let’s go.”
