10 players enter final year of contract, 2 tipped for new deals soon: Man United's contract round-up

Manchester United have been making big changes at the club ever since Richard Arnold and John Murtough took charge of things.

One of the key decisions the duo reportedly made was to wait for the new manager Erik ten Hag to assess all of the squad players before renewing contracts that are entering into their final year.

So there are 11 players who will be entering the final year of their contract, but one of those players is Andreas Pereira, who's move to Fulham is all but completed. So we're looking at the rest, including two players who've been rumoured to getting into renewal negotiations soon.

Marcus Rashford
He's probably the most important player United will be looking to keep, regardless of his form last season. The club have an option to extend his contract by one year and he's one of the players Fabrizio Romano has tipped to be discussed for an extension.

Luke Shaw
Shaw had a brilliant run at the Euros but was unable to replicate that form for most part of last season. He's in a similar situation as Rashford, with whom the club have the option to extend by a year. With the arrival of Malacia, it remains to be seen if his proposed contract talks will go as originally planned.

Cristiano Ronaldo
The Portuguese has missed his third day of training and it is hard to say if he'll be playing at Old Trafford next season. His contract ends in June 2023 as well, with an option for the player to extend by a year.

Fred
Pastor Fred will turn 30 next season but considering United aren't linked with any ball-winning defensive midfielders this summer, he may be one player that is given a contract renewal.

Diogo Dalot
Last season was a turning point for Dalot, as he returned from AC Milan to fight and snatch Wan-Bissaka's spot from the starting XI. His contract expires next summer and considering United are not in the market for a right-back at the moment, he could have a shot at renewal.

David de Gea
He was another major talking point last season as De Gea came to United's rescue on a number of occasions. His inability to distribute the ball effectively will be a point of concern in Ten Hag's decision to renew his contract, but that is yet to be seen.

Axel Tuanzebe
He spent last season on loan at two different clubs, Villa and Napoli, but failed to make an impact at either. After showing initial glimpses of promise his career prospects at the club have waned but it is going to be up to the 24-year-old to impress the new boss in training.

Tahith Chong
Chong had a relatively successful stint at Birmingham last season, considering he was out with a groin injury for a large part of it. He still managed to get some valuable experience, appearing 20 times and bagging 3 assists and a goal.

Phil Jones
The 30-year-old has been at the club for more than a decade and after struggling with injuries and poor form in recent years, he finally got a few chances last season. It's hard to say if he'll be kept on after his contract expires next June.

Tom Heaton
There's been talk of Middlesbrough's interest in the goalie over the past few weeks but only on a loan deal. It was an odd move by United to acquire the player in the first place but it's likely his time at the club will come to an end next summer, if not this.
