Stan Collymore: De Jong Could Still Flop At Old Trafford
Speaking to the Mirror, former Liverpool man Stan Collymore said: "Manchester United's pursuit of Frenkie De Jong is completely underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, he's a good player and would be a decent addition to the squad.
"But I ask myself if he's someone who will take Man United to the next level and the answer, frankly, is, 'no'. He reminds me of his compatriot Donny van de Beek. Ajax produced a full-page farewell to Van de Beek he left.
"Edwin van der Sar, a legend at both Ajax and Man United, was raving about him. Yet it didn't happen for him at Old Trafford and I'm not sure it will for De Jong. If I'm at Liverpool or Manchester City, then I’m certainly not going to be worrying."
Erik ten Hag is reportedly personally interested in bringing De Jong to Old Trafford this summer and Barcelona's dire financial state could force them to accept the offer.
However, despite the 25-year-old's respect for his former Ajax manager, the Dutchman is said to be having doubts about leaving Barca for Man United who won't be playing Champions League next season.
