Real Madrid Want New Benzema Backup: 4 Options Named So Far
With Mariano and Luka Jovic expected to leave this summer, Real Madrid will reportedly look for a new backup for Karim Benzema.
Here's the full list of the players that, as per rumours, could fulfil this role next season.
1. Gabriel Jesus
The Brazilian striker has been offered to Real Madrid as he will look to leave Manchester City this summer. The problem is, though, that he doesn't have an EU passport and the Merengues already have all three non-EU spots occupied.
Jesus finished the 2021/22 season with 13 goals and 12 assists in 41 matches.
2. Borja Mayoral
According to Cadena COPE, the club could keep Mayoral at the club if Mariano and Jovic are sold. His loan at Getafe is set to expire this summer, so he will be returning to Real Madrid.
In the 2021/22 season, the 25-year-old recorded 7 goals and 2 assists in 29 matches for Getafe and AS Roma.
3. Amine Gouiri
As per Radio Marca's Ramon Alvarez de Mon, Madrid also have Nice's striker Amine Gouiri on their list of potential reinforcements upfront. His €42m Tranfermarkt valuation and contract until 2023 could prove a problem, though.
In the 2021/22 season, the 22-year-old recorded 12 goals and 10 assists in 43 matches.
4. Juanmi Latasa
The 21-year-old could be promoted from the academy to act as Benzema's back-up. As per Marca, the club has stopped any talks regarding a possible loan or transfer involving Latasa.
This season, the youngster recorded 13 goals and one assist in 31 matches for Real Madrid Castilla. He made his first-team debut back in May.
