Mo Salah: I Was Shocked To Finish 7th In 2021 Ballon D'or Rankings
Speaking to L’Equipe about his dreams of winning the Ballon d’Or, Liverpool winger Mo Salah said: “I want to win it to join George Weah, the only African [in 1995].
“It's true that I was shocked by my ranking in 2021 (seventh). For this year, the defeat against Real Madrid is a disadvantage, even if I played a good game in the final.
“But it doesn't cancel out everything I've achieved for months. Let's wait for the vote. And if I'm not Ballon d'Or in 2022, I'll do everything I can to be the next one.”
Salah scored 31 goals and provided 6 assists in 51 appearances (in all competitions) for Liverpool in the 2020/21 season. Lionel Messi, of course, won the Ballon d’Or award last year.
The Liverpool winger isn’t really a favorite to win the 2022 Ballon d’Or either, with Karim Benezma a heavy favorite to win it after helping Real Madrid win the La Liga and Champions League titles last season.
