'Maybe I’ll Be Killed For These Words': Ex-russia Captain Speaks Out Against War In Ukraine

Igor Denisov, the former captain of the Russian national team, has become the most high-profile footballer to openly condemn Vladimir Putin's decision to start the war in Ukraine.

"These events are a disaster," Denisov who retired in 2019 said in a YouTube interview.

"Complete horror. I don’t know, maybe I’ll be imprisoned or killed for these words, but I am speaking as it is."

He even revealed that he recorded a message to the Russian president to stop the war - but no major media outlet in the country agreed to publish it.

"I was ready to kneel before him so that he would stop it all. What is the life of one person - some Denisov?" he added.

"There was no longer any pride because I already imagined where it was all going. But, unfortunately, no one posted it."

Russia is still destroying Ukrainian cities and killing civilians including kids with all the weapons imaginable. We strongly condemn Putin’s genocide and acts of terror against Ukraine.
