Manchester United have opened direct talks with Barcelona for the transfer of Frenkie De Jong this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano, a tier-one source.
The midfielder is available for a fee of around €85 million and the La Liga giants are expecting the Red Devils to submit an official opening bid in the near future.
The 25-year-old is 'not convinced' by the idea of leaving Camp Nou but Man United are expected to push through as Barca need to solve their financial woes.
De Jong also wants to play Champions League football next season but Erik ten Hag will have to make do with the Europa League in his first Old Trafford year.
