Most Liverpool fans would've been forgiven for only learning the name of Darwin Nunez this year after the Benfica forward scored twice against the Reds in the Champions League quarter-final.
However, ex-Red Luis Suarez was fully aware of the fellow Uruguayan's talents even before his move to Benfica.
"When [Nunez] was at Almeria, I told Barcelona about him," Suarez who played for the Catalans back then revealed in a conversation with journalist Gerard Romero in 2021.
"They asked me and I said, 'Keep an eye on this one, he's got something interesting about him...'
"But they replied, 'No, he's in Almeria, he's too young.'
"But instead of now having to pay £80m, £90m or £100m, they would have paid £15m or £20m for him back then."
Nunez scored 16 goals for Almeria in the Spanish second tier in his only season before joining Benfica for just over £20m in 2020.
Two years later, Nunez is moving to Liverpool for the club-record fee with all the add-ons.
