Ex- Barca player Emerson survives gunfire while leaving a party, 'about 20 shots' were fired
Former Barcelona player Emerson Royal has been a victim of an attempted robbery at gunpoint while leaving a party in Sao Paulo, according to Brazilian media outlets.
After the player took a pic with a security guard - his fan - the latter offered to escort him to his car, which is when a thief approached Emerson.
A police officer defended the player and exchanged fire. Emerson claims there were 'about 20 shots' fired. The thief was shot and hospitalised.
The 23-year-old was extremely lucky to accidentally have a security guard by his side.
"I will be forever grateful to you. You were fundamental for me to be here today. Thank you, thank you thank you. [This pic was taken moments before the incident]," the player wrote on Instagram.
Emerson joined Tottenham Hotspur from Barcelona for €25m last summer. He has been a regular starter for Antonio Conte's side.
