Declan Rice banned for two European games for calling referee corrupt
UEFA has handed Declan Rice a penalty for calling Spanish referee Jesus Manzano corrupt in a rant after West Ham United’s 1-0 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League semi-finals last season.
He was recorded saying: “Ref! Ref! It is so poor. All night it is so poor. It is so bad. How can you be that bad? Honestly you have probably been f****** paid. F****** corruption.”
The English midfielder has been banned for two European games across any level.
That means even if Rice moves to a Champions League club in the summer, he will miss the first two European games for them.
The Englishman is also poised to miss West Ham’s two-legged playoff qualifier for the Europa Conference League.
