Chelsea Owner Boehly Withholds £100m Off Final Purchase Price

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has knocked £100m off the final price paid for the club.

Boehly's group have committed to paying €4.97bn for the purchase of Chelsea, with €2.9bn upfront and a further €2.07bn due in future investment.

However, The Times says Boehly has held back £100m (€117m) at the final minute of the transaction.

Given the rapid timing imposed by the British authorities for the takeover of the Blues, Chelsea's liabilities have mostly been estimated and not examined in depth. Boehly therefore wanted to protect himself.

A club spokesman said: "It is not unusual in these types of transactions, particularly transactions concluded on an expedited basis, to withhold an amount relating to any unforeseen liabilities that may arise from transactions that occurred before the sale."
