Ben Mee 'to depart' Burnley for free this summer

Burnley is anticipating the departure of captain Ben Mee from the club when his contract expires this summer, according to The Athletic.

Mee is set to follow fellow centre-back James Tarkowski out of Turf Moor for nothing and is believed to have proposals on the table from new clubs.

The 32-year-old is said to have held discussions with Burnley over extending his deal during the season but preferred to focus on the club's unsuccessful pursuit of Premier League survival.

After suffering a season-ending injury in March, Mee saw out the end of the campaign as part of caretaker manager Mike Jackson's backroom staff.

Mee joined Burnley from Manchester City 11 years ago and helped the club to two promotions to the Premier League.
