Barca director denies club will sell Frenkie de Jong for economic reasons

"Selling Frenkie de Jong? I confirm to you that we have not planned to sell any player because of the economic situation," Barcelona economic vice-president Eduard Romeu has said.

"If Frenkie leaves, it will be due to a technical decision, not an economic one."

Meanwhile, the press is saying that Barca have opened direct negotiations with Manchester United over the midfielder. Presumably, the Catalans need to sell Frenkie for financial reasons.

De Jong is not convinced about a move to Man United as he wants to continue at Camp Nou or at least play Champions League football.
