Simba Sc Punished By CAF For Practicing Ritual Before Game
Tanzanian giants Simba SC will have to swallow another bitter pill following their elimination from the CAF Confederations Cup by Orlando Pirates.
The club has been punished by the Confederation of African Football, which found them guilty of performing "hazardous rituals".
The Tanzanian giants were seen forming a huddle at the centre circle of Orlando Stadium ahead of their quarter-final second leg, with smoke appearing from the middle of the group ahead of the game.
Pirates had sent an official complaint about the antics of the visitors, while the match officials had also registered the behaviour in their match report.
According to disk times, this did not please the continent's football governing body, which took action.
CAF said in a statement on its website:
“Simba SC players lit the fire in the centre circle exactly at the starting point as they pretended to pray before the match started. We had to pour water on the fire to put it out before we could start the game.”
“Furthermore, Orlando Pirates club sent a complaint about the incident and the damage which occurred to the pitch. Photos and footage of the incident were also shared by CAF officials.”
Simba was allowed to give its version of events before CAF promptly found the Tanzanian side guilty of performing "hazardous rituals" and slapped them with an R162 000 ($10 000) fine.
