Eintracht Frankfurt Are The Europa League Champions After Beating Rangers 5-4 On Penalties
The German side Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Rangers 5-4 on penalties to be crowned the Europa league champion.
After 120 minutes it was level 1-1 with Joe Aribo’s opening goal cancelled out by Rafael Borre’s equaliser to send the match into extra-time. Neither side was able to take the lead in the extra 30 minutes, taking the final to penalties.
Rangers midfielder Aaron Ramsey missed his attempt during the shoot-out while Rafael Borre converted the match-winning spot kick for Frankfurt.
With the victory, Frankfurt secured automatic qualification to the 2022-23 Champions League group stage.
This marks Frankfurt’s second Europa League in their history and their first after 42 years, since they won the UEFA Cup in 1980.
