Barca President Laporta Indicates Messi Joined PSG For Money
"These players who have signed for clubs like PSG, have almost signed their slavery. For the money," Joan Laporta has told L'Esportiu.
"Leo Messi too? We would all have liked him to end his sporting life here and for whatever reason, he has not been able to be. It could not be because of the fair play and the proposal of PSG. It's also true that PSG has a state behind them, they have a lot of money."
Laporta is trying to twist history here. At the time that it was announced Messi would not continue at Barcelona, he did not have an active offer from PSG. The Parisians moved fast to sign him, though.
In all fairness, there are only a couple of clubs that could have afforded Messi last summer. Manchester City did not appear interested, and PSG was the only club that approached Leo.
It was already August and the season was about to start. Barca didn't even give the Argentine enough time to sort out his future.
