Atletico players refuse to give Real Madrid traditional guard of honour for La Liga triumph

Atletico Madrid players don't plan to give Real Madrid the traditional guard of honour before the upcoming game, Marca reports. They will do it only if specifically told by the club.

This has also been suggested by some of Atletico's players.

"Congratulations to Real Madrid for the league title, they deserve it, but we respect our fans too much for a guard of honour," Jose Gimenez has told Movistar.

Traditionally, the La Liga teams congratulate the winners of the current season before the start of the match by giving them a 'pasillo', or guard of honour.

Real Madrid have been crowned La Liga champions with four games to go, so they would be entitled to a guard of honour in each of the remaining matches - but it's not looking likely to happen in the Madrid derby.
