The UEFA Champions League will see major changes from the 2024/25 season onwards, UEFA has revealed.
From that season, 36 teams will participate in the tournament – seeing an increase from the current 32 that start the competition.
Each team will play 8 games, with 4 games taking place at home and 4 away from home.
A ‘league table’ format will be followed for the initial league phase for all the 36 teams.
The top 8 teams from the ‘league table’ will automatically qualify for the knockout stages, while team finishing from the 9th-24th place will compete in a two-leg playoff.
Out of that, 8 teams will qualify for the Round of 16 – after which the two-legged games will continue as usual.
