Wayne Rooney rejected chance to join Erik ten Hag's coaching staff at Man United
According to The Athletic, Wayne Rooney was informally approached over the possibility to join Erik ten Hag's coaching staff at Man United.
The former forward has done an admirable job with Derby County and fought hard to save them from the relegation to League One despite a 21-point deduction. The relegation was only confirmed earlier this week.
His future is uncertain but he's made it clear to Man United that he would only consider leaving Derby for a No 1 role.
Rooney should not have a shortage of suitors. He was already under consideration for Everton after they fired Rafael Benitez. Rooney would not leave Derby during the relegation fight, though.
So far, we know that Mitchell van der Gaag is set to join Ten Hag as his assistant coach, while Steve McClaren is also rumoured to be close to returning to Old Trafford.
