Thomas Tuchel is under no misconception about the size of the task Chelsea faces when they travel to Madrid for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.
"The question was if it is still alive. I said probably not. The task does not change.
"It is still a big task and like I said after Madrid, let's have the response today because it was already too much about goals conceded and lack of concentration and everything that came with these two defeats.
"The result and performance (at Southampton) is good because I am sure that lifts everyone’s spirits," he said.
"But the task is huge. Let’s be honest. Everything is possible in football, but let’s be realistic — it is still the Bernabeu and an opponent very different from today. But it is the best way to prepare."
The boss may publicly be cautious about his ambitions going into the second leg but he will have the team raring to go come Tuesday night.
