Serena Williams and Lewis Hamilton to join one of bids to buy Chelsea
As per Sky Sports, tennis legend Serena Williams and F1 driver Lewis Hamilton have both pledged £10 million to Sir Martin Broughton's bid to buy Chelsea.
The two sporting icons have been in talks with Broughton's team for weeks and their experience in building global sports brands is the reason for their inclusion in the bid.
Hamilton's involvement is particularly noteworthy as the seven-time Formula 1 world champion is known to be an Arsenal fan.
The two would not be the first major sports stars to be involved in the ownership of teams of a different sport. NBA superstar LeBron James has been a stakeholder with a small share in Liverpool for over 10 years now.
Broughton's bid is one of the three remaining frontrunners to buy Chelsea and the only one led by a British person, although there's a wide variety of global investors in this consortium.
The other two bids are led by American businessmen, Todd Boehly and Steve Pagliuca.
Raine Group, the back that is overseeing the sale process, is expected to select a preferred bidder by the end of the month.
