Max Allegri reveals he accepted Real Madrid job last summer before going to Juventus
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Massimiliano Allegri said: "Last summer, I had already signed an agreement with Real Madrid. But then, in the morning, I called the president and told him that I would not go because I had chosen Juventus.
"He thanked me for my words. Since Juventus called me in May, I had no doubts. On a professional level it would have been the culmination of a journey, of course: AC Milan, Juventus and then Real Madrid.
"But, in life you can't always have everything and I am very happy and proud to have coached Milan for four years and to now be in my sixth year at a club like Juventus.
"I turned Real Madrid down twice. The first time was when I renewed with Juve. I told the Real Madrid president that I had already given my word to [Juventus chairman] Andrea Agnelli."
With Allegri returning to Juventus, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez contacted former Bernabeu manager Carlo Ancelotti about returning to the club.
The Italian left Everton and returned to Madrid but it remains to be seen whether the 62-year-old will remain at the club beyond the 2021/22 campaign.
