Manchester City restore their one-point advantage over Liverpool
Man City fight off courageous Brighton to replace Liverpool in top spot
Manchester City restored their one-point advantage over Liverpool at the Premier League after a slim victory over Brighton.
The pressure was on City after Liverpool trashed Manchester United and it continued to build after a goalless first-half at the Etihad.
Brighton done an immense job holding off the City attack, but they were eventually breached by Riyad Mahrez's finish soon after the break.
Kevin De Bruyne was at his creative best throughout the match, with his pass setting up Mahrez for the opener.
A deflected strike from Phil Foden made it 2-0 for the hosts after 65 minutes.
De Bruyne was on hand again to set up Bernardo Silva with a neat effort to seal victory.
City host Watford at the weekend, while Liverpool take on Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Sunday.
Brighton remain in 10th-place and can take confidence after another courageous display against the competition leaders.
