Karim Benzema closes in on Ronaldo's Champions League record after Man City heroics
Karim Benzema scored a superb brace in Real Madrid’s 4-3 loss to Man City in the first leg of their Champions League semi-finals.
The two goals have taken his overall goal tally in this season’s Champions League to 14 goals!
In doing so, Benzema has matched Lionel Messi’s best-ever goal tally for a single Champions League campaign – as Leo had also scored 14 goals in the 2011/12 campaign.
However, Karim is still a bit away from matching or surpassing the record of most goals scored in a single Champions League season.
That was set by Cristiano Ronaldo when he scored 17 goals for Real Madrid in the European competition in the 2013/14 season.

That means Benzema will have to score 4 more goals to surpass his former teammate’s record as the competition nears its end.
