Everton send complaint to referee's association over Matip-Gordon inciden
As per The Athletic, Everton have written to the PGMOL [Professional Game Match Officials Limited] to ask why the incident between Anthony Gordon and Joel Matip was not looked at 'in detail'.
Gordon sprinted past Matip while collecting a through pass in the second half and went down in the box but no penalty was given.
VAR did not look at the incident in detail, with the game restarting from a goal kick almost immediately afterwards.
As per the report, VAR did check the decision but decided there was not enough contact to overturn the on-pitch call.
VAR only overturns such calls if the referee made a 'clear and obvious error'. Stuart Atwell was not instructed to refer to the replay screen monitor on the sidelines.
Manager Frank Lampard later complained about the decision, claiming that it's hard to get such calls at Anfield and it would have been called a foul if Mohamed Salah had gone down the same way.
