Arsenal back in top-four race with an emphatic 4-2 win over Chelsea
Arsenal got their top-four push back on track with an emphatic 4-2 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
The Gunners traveled to west London on the back of three straight defeats and another loss would have spelt trouble for their top-four chances.
But Mikel Arteta's side took the challenge by the scruff of the neck when Eddie Nketiah opened the scoring after 13 minutes.
The Englishman started ahead of Alexandre Lacazette and rewarded his manager with a composed finish after a failed clearance from Andreas Christensen.
Timo Werner equalised shortly after when his deflected effort evaded Aaron Ramsdale, before Emile Smith Rowe restored the lead with a classy finish to beat Edouard Mendy from the edge of the box.
The topsy-turvy encounter continued when Cesar Azpilicueta tapped in a cross from Mason Mount to make it 2-2 at the break.
Capitulation would have been expected from Arsenal in recent seasons, but this is not the same Gunners side and Nketiah restored the lead with a tenacious goal after 57 minutes.
The result was put beyond doubt when Bukayo Saka converted from the spot after he was hauled down by Azpilicueta.
Arsenal are now behind fourth-placed Tottenham on goal difference and the two are yet to play in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are now just five points in front of Spurs but they do possess a game in hand.
