Saudi Arabian consortium enter Chelsea race with £2.7 billion offer
Saudi Media Group have entered the race to buy Chelsea following the sanctions against Roman Abramovich, as per CBS Sports.
The private consortium, headed by businessman and life-time Chelsea supporter Mohamed Alkhereiji, have made a £2.7 billion bid for the Premier League side.
Unlike the Public Investment Fund that purchased Newcastle last year, Saudi Media Group have no direct ties to the Saudi government. In fact, Alkhereiji was born and raised in London.
Chelsea have been put up for sale by Russian billionaire Abramovich following the Russia–Ukraine war. However, the oligarch will need a special permission from the UK government for the deal to go ahead.
