'He lied to me and Messi': Pique slams Bartomeu amid BarcaGate scandal

"Bartomeu is a person with many insecurities. He wants to make everyone happy and can't say no. He doesn't know how to deal with problems. In the end, we never even saw him at the training base," Gerard Pique has told Jordi Wild.

"Why am I angry with him? Because he lied to my face with this BarcaGate scandal. The club hired a service to criticise players and told both me and Messi that they didn't know anything about it," he added.

Josep Maria Bartomeu and his board were accused of paying over one million euros to social media company I3 Ventures for a smear campaign.

The plot was to paint Barca legends Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique and Xavi in a negative light while portraying Bartomeu positively.

Bartomeu was arrested in March but was later released with a trial date set.
