Chelsea's £1bn 'headache' that forces potential buyers to reconsider bidding
Around 10 parties are said to be interested in buying Chelsea after Roman Abramovich officially announced his intention to sell the club.
But many are put off by Stamford Bridge, described as Chelsea's 'headache' in the Telegraph's latest report.
The stadium can host only 41,837 people, a relatively small capacity given Chelsea's status as one of the world's biggest clubs.
There have been talks about redeveloping the stadium—basically building a new one on the site of Stamford Bridge—but these have been shelved since 2018.
Potential buyers will have to spend around £1bn to redevelop the stadium, on top of a £3bn price set by Abramovich to sell the club.
The Telegraph claim that at least two groups are keen on buying Chelsea but see the stadium as a 'huge stumbling block'.
