Speaking about the issues facing La Liga, Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin said: "We want to build a league that can compete with the Premier League.
"We want a global league. It's necessary to modernise, digitise and build infrastructures so that fans can enjoy the experience. It's the only way we have to grow."
The English top-flight has pulled ahead of its European competitors in recent years and it's no longer surprising to see all-Premier League European finals.
Two of the last three Champions League titles have been won by English teams after years of Spanish dominance through Real Madrid and Barcelona.
