Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire are 'embroiled in a power struggle' over the captaincy, according to the Mirror.
Ralf Rangnick has spoken to both players about Maguire giving up the armband until the end of the season to take the pressure off him.
However, the centre-back is 'reluctant' to do so because he fears that it could lead to him losing the Manchester United captaincy on a permanent basis.
Maguire feels 'increasingly undermined' by Ronaldo and there's 'growing belief' behind the scenes at Old Trafford that Cristiano will soon replace the defender as the captain of the club.
The 37-year-old has positioned himself as an example to younger players after deciding that the dressing room lacks a leader to pull everyone in the same direction. Thus, the skipper feels 'marginalised in terms of his authority'.
